Katja von Garnier – Founder

The movies Unicorn Pictures want to create will build on and expand Katja’s unique directorial signature; her ability to interweave rhythm, movement, music and images while at the same time being very much an actor's director. Having lived in Los Angeles for 12 years, Katja’s cinematic visions are large. She is not afraid to portray beauty and tell existential stories.

Following the national and international success of BANDITS (the original girls- on-the-run-prison-band story), Katja von Garnier relocated to the U.S. For several years she lived and worked there on feature films such as the Golden Globe nominated IRON JAWED ANGELS starring Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston, who won a Golden Globe for her performance.

Katja was then lured back to Germany to become the directing force behind the OSTWIND-franchise. This girl-and-a-horse brand, based on an original script, has gone on to become a major German box-office success, receiving numerous awards and plaudits on its way: e.g the German Film Award for Best Children's and Youth Film, the Bavarian Film Award (for Katja herself) amongst others.

Fun Fact: Katja graduated from school with majors in in Maths and Chemistry. This often leads her to merge scientific knowledge with her artist’s nature.
